At 52, post-menopausal, with dry, mature skin, I’m careful with brightening products. A lot of them sound great on the label but end up being too thin, too harsh, or not hydrating enough for skin that needs support.This one surprised me in a good way.This is called a jelly serum, and that description makes sense. It is a little heavier than what I normally expect from a serum, but not in a bad way. The texture has more cushion to it, which I actually liked. It spreads easily, absorbs well, and once it settles, it does not feel heavy, sticky, or greasy on the skin.I also like that it comes in a jar. It feels practical for this type of texture, and you can control how much you use. A little goes a long way.From an ingredient standpoint, this is focused on brightening, hydration, and overall skin tone support. You have niacinamide, tranexamic acid, glutathione, ascorbic acid, ferulic acid, and astaxanthin, all ingredients that make sense in a formula targeting dullness and uneven tone. There are also multiple forms of hyaluronic acid, which help with hydration and that smoother, more plumped surface look.The amino acid complex is also a nice support piece. It helps the formula feel more skin-conditioning rather than just active-heavy.That balance matters.This is not going to erase dark spots overnight or act like a prescription treatment. It is not a dramatic correction product. What it does well is help the skin look more hydrated, more even, and more refreshed with consistent use.In terms of results, what I notice most is the glow. My skin looks smoother, better hydrated, and a bit brighter overall. Fine dehydration lines look softer because the skin is more supported. I was surprised by the consistency of this. It feels like thick jelly. It leaves a bit of a sticky residue on my skin for quite awhile after application. For that reason, I prefer to use this at night. The adorable tiny spoon makes it easy to get just the right amount. You don't need a ton of this per use. It feels nice and soothing and moisturizing on my skin. I have had some scarring from past breakouts and this seems to even out my complexion. It has a bit of a medicinal smell. It's not my favorite scent, but it's not offensive either or super strong.

Skin tone brightening thick jelly. It goes on smooth and leaves a nice glow. Light enough to layer your products. It's also moisturizing.

I don't wear make-up very often, but I imagine if you do, this one would be tricky to use with make-up. It's a good one for overnight wear. It's a bit too early to tell if it is actually going to lighten any of my sunspots that have been blessing my skin lately. If you can get past the stickiness, it does leave your skin feeling smooth afterwards.It comes with a small spoon for dispensing that does work quite well although I always find that I end up losing those unless they are the magnetic kind and stick to the lid.

I ordered this because it contains astaxanthin, and my skin really seems to love that ingredient. I was also curious to try a jelly serum, because I've tried a jelly cleanser and many conductive gels, but never a true "jelly serum."When I first opened this, I was impressed with the cute little spoon that is way better designed for the texture of this serum than would be a flat skincare spatula. The texture of this is definitely more jelly-like than I even expected, but it feels good going on. I will say that it is very sticky/tacky, and I mean that in the way that it feels like it never fully dries. I can generally tolerate any texture for overnight skincare, but this one is just shy of too much. I have to braid my long hair and pin my bangs back, and stay away from my dogs lest little dog hairs get caught in the stickiness.All that work seems worth it to me in the morning, because my skin looks brighter and very well-hydrated. I do have to rinse it off in the morning, which leads me to think it would do a decent job sealing in other gentle serums; it has staying power! I could also see this working well under a hydrogel or sheet mask, but my sensory issues haven't let me graduate to sleeping in a mask just yet, so at this time that's just a thought. All that to say: this gives visible results and seems to be more versatile than I first thought it would be.The other thing worth a mention is the fragrance. I tend to insist upon fragrance-free for daytime, and can handle some fragrances overnight. This is not the super sharp, bright floral that seems to be common in a lot of Korean skincare, but it is fairly strong with bit of longevity. It doesn't evoke actual perfume so much as something like body wash or shampoo. If you are particularly sensitive, this may not be the one for you.Despite the somewhat unpleasant "never dry" stickiness and a bit more fragrance than I'd like, I really like this based on how my skin looks and feels after I use it. I plan to experiment with it over other skincare and/or under a mask to see how it amplifies the benefits.

Great product

I’ve tried many products that target same issue and use similar ingredients but most of the leave my complexion reddish, this one gives me an immediate glow and smooth skin look, I know for now it’s cosmetic but hopefully it works in long run to help me fade uneven tone.

As a big fan of Dr.Melaxin products, especially the rice peel shot, which is part of my daily routine, I had decent hopes for this one but it didn’t pan out. Keep in mind, my skin is “combo” but leans on the dry side, especially living in South FL. I found this serum to be stickier than others I’ve used and significantly more drying. When used with a hydrating moisturizer afterwards, those downfalls can be somewhat minimized but I’m reviewing this based on the product itself. I prefer serums that are hydrating, not drying. If you have oily skin at baseline, you may really enjoy this one then. The ingredients are solid and I trust this brand after ordering multiple products from their line in the past at full price. But it just doesn’t jive with my skin type in my mid-30’s, while trying to hydrate my skin and maintain that bright dewy look I miss having naturally just a few years ago. I will say, it is lightweight but the sticky residue isn’t pleasant on my skin type. I gave it a solid chance but I couldn’t get past that “feel” to use it regularly enough longterm to notice any effectiveness with skin tone evening. Again, not saying it may not work for you, but this one is highly dependent on skin type. On the plus side, as someone who’s sensitive to quite a few products, this didn’t cause any issues for me in regards to breakouts, sensitivity, or redness, so that’s a plus I suppose.

This comes with an adorable little spoon for application. It does feel a bit strange on. But it works and it does tighten up skin as advertised. It’s sticky, but that wears away. Overall another solid Dr. Melaxin product.

So why am I giving this item 4 stars if it gave me a skin reaction? Honestly, I'm not going to knock off stars for the fact that my skin didn't tolerate this serum well when it was applied to my "entire" face, because the product itself has been great for me as a spot treatment instead.Short backstory- my skin is sometimes sensitive to high levels of niacinamide and reacts by getting very hot and flushed. I'm more of a rarity for this side effect. Unfortunately this serum did just that when it was applied to my whole face. So I'd recommend a patch test first if you have sensitive skin. It also has a strong floral scent that lingers. I loved the smell, but if fragrance is a concern, this is not a product for you. HOWEVER, I was able to get the benefits of this serum when applied to dark spots directly and not my entire face. My skin does not react as harshly with this type of application. After about a week of spot treating some of my darker sun spots that have appeared in my 40s, the discoloration seems to have faded and become more even. I didn't notice my skin being particularly moisturized though.I did take off a star because of the texture of this serum. It is a gooey, jelly-like consistency that never fully dries down, which I didn't care for. Even with a thin layer, it never absorbed fully and just stayed sticky and tacky. I would not be able to wear makeup over this during the daytime, so it will remain a part of my nighttime skincare routine. It also rubs off of the skin at night if you are a side sleeper. I've gone to bed with it feeling tacky, and when I wake up it's gone. I know it has rubbed off because when I wash, I don't feel any residue washing away, like most other serums. No staining on my sheets, but it does transfer. You'll be washing pillowcases frequently.Despite these small criticisms and my finicky skin, I will continue to use this as a spot treatment and hopefully see more improvement in my dark spots.

This Dr.Melaxin TX Astaxanthin Triple Jelly Serum has a strong scent. It's a pleasant scent, but strong than I'm used to for a skin care item I put on before bed. I'm on the fence about the consistency. It is definitely a jelly, which is nice that it is thicker and doesn't drip off my face. I don't like that it stays tacky for a long time. We have 2 shedding dogs and their fur gets stuck in it. It does do a good job at hydrating, and I've noticed slight skin improvement since starting to use it.
